Scania Mexico reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and the environment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and have cleaner and more efficient mobility through its products; this through its signing with the ZEBRA (Zero Emission Bus Rapid-Deployment Accelerator) project, which is co-directed between the International Council for Clean Transportation and the ICCT and C-40 Climate Change Leadership Group.
The Climate Change Leadership Group, better known as C40, has among its initiatives the ZEBRA project, which aims to accelerate the introduction of zero-emission transport, by boosting the supply and demand of electric vehicles, boosting financing and new business models, as well as collaboration to share knowledge. In this way, the C40 group seeks to increase the supply of electric vehicles, knowing that Scania has an important strategy in this regard and the agreement was made to sign the commitment.
“This signing puts us one step ahead of the commitment we want to achieve in terms of electric mobility, promoting actions to combat climate change. This year we will have the launch of two electric vehicles, one in the bus segment and the other in cargo, which makes us extremely proud, in addition to being the first company in Mexico to sign the ZEBRA project”, mentioned Alejandro Mondragón, General Director of Scania. Mexico.
For his part, Jorge Navarro Inostroza, Director of the Scania Mexico bus segment, commented during the talks held with Leticia Pineda, Regional Leader of ICCT, that he is “proud that Scania is the first company in Mexico to locally develop an electric bus to make a transition that makes having more sustainable cities a reality.”
The Climate Leadership Group (C40) is made up of cities from around the world that join efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the atmosphere and adapt to climate change, 70% of the cities that are part of this group have implemented actions that they benefit the environment, something that, without a doubt, is a great effort to improve our surroundings. Some signatory cities in Latin America are Mexico City, Medellín, São Paulo and Santiago.
Some of the actions that Scania signs before this agreement are: make available at least one zero-emission bus model for purchase in Mexico, make available to ZEBRA partners the results of independent tests of energy consumption in the bus cycle for each product made in Mexico, carry out an operation demonstration of at least one zero-emission bus model in Mexico City within 12 months of signing this declaration, inform ZEBRA partners of the number of buses and zero emission chassis sold in Mexico, among others.
